Why it is interesting

A strong candidate for a first dressy mechanical watch. The dial supplies enough character that it need not feel like a temporary purchase before something expensive.

Things to consider

Hardlex is not sapphire. A leather strap and 5 bar water resistance make this primarily an urban watch rather than a waterside companion.

The model in detail

With the SRPB43, study the dial rather than hunt for a record on a specification sheet. Its radiating pattern makes it dressier than one might expect from affordable mechanics. To my eye, the finishing explains its appeal better than grand promises of accuracy.

The automatic 4R35 offers hand-winding and hacking seconds. Its case measures 40.5 mm and the crystal is box-shaped Hardlex. The recognisable silhouette comes from the volume of the crystal as well as the dial beneath it.

The official US catalogue lists $450. Compared with the Bambino, paying more makes sense for an appearance you prefer, rather than an expectation of a fundamentally different movement class. Both purchases are best judged on the wrist with the clothing you normally wear.
