Why it is interesting

The compact case and grey-blue graphics pair beautifully with A5000 mechanics. Particularly appealing for a lover of traditional chronographs.

Things to consider

With 3 bar and a leather strap, plan for dry wear. A 42-hour reserve calls for regular manual winding.

The model in detail

Meet the watch

The new Angelus Chronographe Tachymètre balances a pearl-grey centre with a deep blue flange and two blue counters. There are plenty of markings, neatly organised into concentric circles. In official photographs the dial resembles a small instrument panel with the character of vintage racing watches. The October series continues La Fabrique; we chose the steel Steel Grey for this review.

The practical surprise is its size: this chronograph fits into a 37 mm diameter and 9.25 mm thickness. It is an intriguing option if you like a stopwatch but prefer a compact watch under a cuff. Curved lugs and a box sapphire crystal support the vintage silhouette. We have not tried it on, but the proportions themselves distinguish it among larger sports chronographs.

The chronograph is controlled by one pusher integrated into the crown, creating a sequential ritual of starting, stopping and resetting. The 30-minute counter sits on the right and running seconds on the left. We like how a single pusher preserves the case’s clean outline, while the symmetry of two counters calms the busy dial.

Details and limitations

A tachymeter converts the time taken over a known distance into average speed. One kilometre in 30 seconds, for example, means 120 km/h. BASE 1000 signals the kilometre basis; over one mile, the reading is in miles per hour. The upper marking is 500. It is an understandable mechanical function with appealing history, even if other instruments usually show speed today.

The A5000 needs manual winding and provides a 42-hour reserve. A column wheel coordinates chronograph commands, while a horizontal clutch connects the stopwatch to the movement. The transparent back reveals a gilded base and contrasting chronograph components. For an enthusiast, this reverse side matters as much as the dial: the stopwatch’s construction becomes part of the pleasure.

Steel Grey is limited to 50 pieces and comes on blue calfskin. Its 3-bar water resistance places it in the realm of elegant chronographs for dry everyday wear. We particularly like the thin case, restrained palette and visible mechanics. This is a watch for someone who wants both to time a minute and to explore how it is counted.
