Why it is interesting

A compelling option for visible-mechanics enthusiasts: balance and wheels shape the composition, while retrograde seconds animate it.

Things to consider

Check the small time dial for legibility during a fitting. A 3-bar rating and leather strap require care around water.

The model in detail

Meet the watch

Expensive watches often ask you to turn them over to see the most interesting part. The Tradition 7097 reverses that introduction: balance, bridges and wheels become its face. A small time dial at the top leaves most of the space to mechanics. It suits someone who wants to watch the movement throughout the day, rather than only after taking the watch off.

Read the composition as architecture. Bridges establish supporting lines, round components set a rhythm, and matte surfaces let polished edges stand out. So many parts could become visual noise, but the compact engine-turned dial gives the eye an anchor. Our reading is that the refinement of the 7097 comes from order within complexity.

The seconds hand traverses a sector near 10 o'clock before returning to the start. This is retrograde indication: an arc and a return jump instead of a full revolution. It offers little practical advantage over conventional seconds, but gives the dial a short performance of its own. Consider whether that movement will still delight you after the first encounter.

Details and limitations

The automatic 505SR1 runs at 3 Hz and offers a 50-hour reserve. Its silicon balance spring is a modern ingredient in a historically inflected composition. The visible pare-chute protects the balance pivots from shocks. It is an intriguing engineering detail, although treating an expensive open-display watch as a sports instrument would be a mistake.

White gold and a 40 × 11.8 mm case provide presence without a giant diameter. At a fitting, concentrate on reading the small time dial and how the lugs sit on your wrist. A 3-bar rating and alligator strap limit exposure to water. The busy face demands attention: if instant time reading matters, assess that compromise in person.

On October 15, 2026, US authorized dealer The 1916 Company lists the 7097BB/G1/9WU at $51,500. This is a specific US dealer price; availability and final taxes require separate confirmation. Architecture and execution account for its appeal, so comparing complication counts explains little. In a collection of conventional closed dials, the 7097 adds a distinctly different way of watching time.
