MING · 57.09 Secret Honey — экономика малой серии
The model in detail
Meet the watch
It is easy to see simple arithmetic in an expensive watch with a sourced movement: find the price of a similar calibre and call everything else markup. That calculation leaves out the object itself. The case, display, development and service cost money too. The opposite extreme is no better: a small edition alone does not establish that a price is fair.
In a Notebookcheck interview published on 16 October, MING founder Ming Thein explained that small component orders offer no economies of scale, while dramatically increasing production would make the current service level harder to maintain. This is the manufacturer's position, not a published audit. It cannot establish the cost of a particular watch or a profit percentage.
The general principle makes sense without access to private accounts. Development, tooling and prototype testing must be spread across finished products. In a small series, each item may carry a larger share of those expenses. This is an economic explanation, not an established breakdown of MING's costs: the company has not disclosed its costing to us.
Details and limitations
The 57.09 Secret Honey offers something specific to assess. Three rotating sapphire discs produce a changing optical pattern. It is called dynamic guilloché, but it involves interference between overlapping elements rather than traditional cutting with an engine-turning tool. It matters which effect and which work you are actually buying.
Inside, meanwhile, is the Sellita for MING 330.M2. A sourced calibre does not erase the value of the rest of the construction; attributing complete in-house movement production to the brand would be equally wrong. Separate the questions: how much do the display and execution interest you, is the fit comfortable, and are future servicing arrangements clear?

© MING / Massena LAB · SourceThe stated price is CHF 7,250 excluding import duties and taxes. Compare it with a local dealer's offer after clarifying every payment and the delivery terms. A limited edition guarantees neither a profitable resale nor freedom from repair bills. The Massena LAB page currently shows sold out and a waitlist.
The buyer pays for a complete object and the desire to use it. A small brand may have understandable reasons for a high price, but those reasons do not oblige us to agree with it. A good purchase begins when you can explain which features matter to you personally without relying on scarcity or future returns.
