Hanhart · 417 ES × 0260 & BAIT Creme
The model in detail
Meet the watch
Slender numerals turned towards the centre change the 417 ES more profoundly than another dial colour. In the Hanhart, 0260 and BAIT collaboration, the familiar pilot’s chronograph adopts the language of vintage racing instruments. Yet the typography was not invented for a fashionable partnership: Hanhart traces it to the model 881 in its own 1930s catalogue. This is a modern interpretation, not a copy of a particular racing watch. The partners chose two personalities: black with cream counters, and cream with brown counters. Each version numbers 88 pieces. In the official photographs, the black version separates the displays more sharply from their background; the cream version brings hands, numerals and counters into a softer palette. Our pick for an expressive everyday look is cream, but the fine markings deserve an in-person check, especially if your eyesight needs strong contrast.

© Hanhart · SourceInside is a manually wound Sellita SW 510 M, rather than a new exclusive movement. The important distinction is how it is used: you must wind the watch yourself, but there is no date to reset after it stops. The stated 58 hours cover a two-day break if it begins fully wound; they do not guarantee running from Friday evening to Monday morning. A 4 Hz frequency is not a promise of any particular accuracy.
The two counters look symmetrical but serve different jobs: one shows running seconds, the other elapsed chronograph minutes up to 30. The central seconds hand belongs to the stopwatch. This is enough for short cooking tasks or a training interval; it will not display several consecutive hours without separately keeping track of counter revolutions. The rotating bezel’s red marker can record a starting position, but does not replace a dedicated hour totaliser.
Details and limitations
A 39 mm diameter sounds restrained, but promising a slim fit would be a mistake: Hanhart specifies 13.3 mm including the crystal and 11.55 mm without it. The tall sapphire is a substantial part of the silhouette. Comparing this watch with flat three-handers on diameter alone is therefore unhelpful: before buying, check whether it fits beneath your usual cuff. The standard 20 mm lug spacing provides a straightforward starting point for choosing another strap.
The stated 10 bar does not make this a dive watch: its bidirectional bezel is not a unidirectional diving timer, and the supplied leather strap serves its visual character. This edition’s strength is the combination of a mechanical stopwatch and unusual typography. Buyers primarily seeking a convenient daily tool should first decide whether manual winding and the absence of a date suit them, then consider the limited-edition number.
The release began on October 23, 2026 with a 24-hour Chrono24 exclusive window. On the Hanhart page checked on October 25, the brand already says direct sales are sold out and suggests asking about authorised-dealer stock. That does not establish that every dealer has sold out, nor justify promising availability. For us, the interesting part is how archival typography becomes contemporary design, rather than rarity alone: 88 examples do not guarantee future collectible value.
