Shinola Duck Automatic: 38 mm and two different power reserves

The Duck gains a mechanical version: a 38 mm steel case, exhibition back and Japanese Miyota movement. The light Alabaster runs for around 42 hours, while a separate 9085 set offers around 80. Announced on October 5, 2026, the collection is scheduled to go on sale on October 6.

Why it is interesting

For everyday wear, I like the light Alabaster. If you switch watches frequently, the separate 9085 version deserves a look: its power reserve is considerably longer.

Things to consider

The Alabaster with the 9015 is rated at approximately 42 hours. Around 80 hours applies to the separate 9085 Gift Set; availability and delivery need checking with the seller.

The model in detail

Meet the watch

The light Duck Automatic feels particularly lively thanks to turquoise markings and a yellow seconds-hand tip. On the Alabaster version, the Hydro relief meets the texture of the pale dial, a black aluminium bezel insert and a steel bracelet. The result is a sporting watch with a fairly light visual character, without an enormous case or an entirely black surface.

Shinola presented the collection on October 5, 2026. The official waiting page gives October 6 at 9:00 a.m. US Eastern Time as the launch time — 6:00 p.m. in Tashkent. A morning announcement and the ability to buy a watch at a particular store are therefore separate events. The new automatic range has four versions; the previous quartz Duck remains a separate model.

For the Alabaster, the manufacturer specifies a diameter of 38 mm, a thickness of 11.2 mm and a lug-to-lug length of 46.32 mm. The last figure is more useful than a promise to fit every wrist: it is the one to compare with the width of your wrist. The case is steel, the crystal is sapphire, the crown screws down and the stated water resistance is 10 ATM. The H-link bracelet gains a quick-release system.

Details and limitations

Behind the exhibition back sits a 24-jewel Miyota 9015 with around 42 hours of power reserve. This is a Japanese automatic calibre from movement supplier Miyota; the watches are designed and assembled in Detroit. A signed rotor with a yellow ring adds a pleasing detail on the reverse. Take a fully wound watch off on Friday evening and 42 hours will not reach Monday morning: a habit of wearing it regularly matters here.

The fourth version, the Duck Automatic 9085 Gift Set, has a different movement: a Miyota 9085 rated at approximately 80 hours. The set includes a steel bracelet and an additional grey rubber strap. Those 80 hours cannot be applied to the light Alabaster with its 9015. For someone rotating several watches, the choice of movement inside visually similar models becomes the main question.

The official US Alabaster page shows $895; the release prices the 9085 set at $1 095. These are US offer prices, without a calculation of delivery to Uzbekistan. To my eye, the novelty's strength is the combination of a compact sporting case and recognisable colour accents. Choosing between the two movements makes sense according to your routine: constant wear or breaks of several days.
