Vacheron Year of the Goat: freeing the dial from hands

Watch passportSelect a specification for a plain-language explanation

Why it is interesting

The four apertures have a concrete purpose: giving craftwork its own space. The calibre serves the composition, which is what makes the watch coherent.

Things to consider

Small windows demand a more focused glance than large hands. A 40-hour reserve also means time and calendar may need resetting after a weekend off the wrist.

The model in detail

The goat does not have to hide behind hands: there are none. Time is read in the two upper apertures, weekday and date in the lower pair. Vacheron Constantin thus clears the centre for a relief gold figure and enamel landscape. The two Year of the Goat versions appeared in watch publications on October 27–28, 2026, and mark the Chinese zodiac cycle of 2027.

Behind the unusual layout is the automatic 2460 G4/3. Indications are transmitted to discs rather than conventional hands. Hours and minutes move progressively, while the calendar indications jump: four similar windows do not mean all discs move the same way. The movement runs at 4 Hz, comprises 237 components and contains 27 jewels; stated reserve is 40 hours.

Hand engraving creates the relief, while successive enamel work gives the landscape depth. This is not a flat animal print on a finished dial. A 22-carat gold rotor providing automatic winding is visible through the transparent back. The Hallmark of Geneva adds a verifiable criterion of origin and workmanship, though it cannot decide how comfortably an owner reads four separate indications.

The pink-gold version is reference 86073/000R-H105, the platinum version 86073/000P-H104, with 25 examples of each. At 40 mm across, the case is 12.72 mm thick and water-resistant to 30 m. Price is on request. The main choice is artistic: the warmth of pink gold or a cooler platinum composition, with the same mechanical logic.
