NOMOS Glashütte · Tangente neomatik 41 Update
The movement in detail
The movement’s idea
A conventional date sits in a window. On the Tangente neomatik 41 Update, it runs around the dial, with two red markers framing today's number. That idea changes the familiar Tangente face: the date is visible without cutting into the centre of its spare layout.
The reason lies in the DUW 6101. NOMOS placed the date ring around the movement and integrated the calendar into its architecture. The automatic calibre measures 3.6 mm thick; the complete reference 180 watch measures 7.8 mm. This explains how the model stays slim with a large date display. A new position for the ring does not, on its own, prove exceptional accuracy.

© NOMOS Glashütte · SourceSetting it is useful, too: the date can be corrected quickly both forward and backward. If the watch stopped a few days ago, correcting a one-day overshoot need not mean cycling through nearly a whole month. NOMOS still has rules for adjusting the calendar: consult the instructions for this model rather than assuming bidirectional adjustment is safe at every hour.
Practical meaning
For reference 180, the brand specifies a 40.5 mm diameter, 49.3 mm lug-to-lug length and up to 42 hours of power reserve. On the wrist, its length may be more noticeable than its modest thickness. A fully wound watch taken off on Friday evening will probably need resetting by Monday morning: 42 hours will not span the whole weekend.

But the point of this example is how an engineering choice becomes a legible design feature and makes date correction easier. For daily wear, compare the fit of the nearly 49.3 mm case and the ring's readability against a familiar date window.
