Panerai PAM01784: a tourbillon that turns once every 30 seconds

The Panerai P.2005/T tourbillon rotates on an axis perpendicular to the balance and completes one revolution in 30 seconds. In PAM01784, this architecture is paired with a true GMT, three barrels and a six-day power reserve.

Why it is interesting

A rare open tourbillon that remains a functional travel watch: six days of reserve, true GMT and 100-metre water resistance.

Things to consider

The 47 mm case, busy skeleton display and roughly EUR 160,000 price make an in-person fitting and boutique availability check essential.

The model in detail

Meet the watch

The new PAM01784 places the complex P.2005/T calibre inside a 47 mm Grade 5 titanium Luminor case. The movement is left almost completely open: bridges, barrels, wheel train and tourbillon become the dial itself, while applied markers and contrasting hands help separate the indications from the dense mechanical background.

The defining feature of P.2005/T is the unusual geometry of its tourbillon. Its cage rotates around an axis perpendicular to that of the balance and completes a full turn in 30 seconds, whereas a conventional cage usually turns once per minute. This is Panerai’s signature construction; the presence of a tourbillon does not by itself establish a stated accuracy, so it should be viewed as an architectural and technical solution rather than an automatic chronometry guarantee.

Energy comes from three barrels connected in series. The stated power reserve is 144 hours, the frequency is 28,800 vibrations per hour, and the entire 10.05 mm-thick skeletonised calibre contains 277 components and 31 jewels. Six days of autonomy is useful in a hand-wound watch: it can be left for several days without having to restore the hands and GMT setting.

Details and limitations

The GMT is designed for travel: the local hour hand can be moved forward or backward in one-hour steps without disturbing home time. The open display also carries small seconds, a 24-hour indication and a power-reserve indicator. Coloured tips separate the functions, but legibility should be checked in person because the skeletonised background remains visually busy.

The 47 mm case is made from Grade 5 titanium and, according to the brand’s narrative, weighs about 105 grams. Titanium makes a large watch lighter, but it does not reduce its actual span or height on the wrist: the signature crown-protection bridge and broad lugs make a fitting essential even for a large wrist.

A 100-metre water-resistance rating is practical for a high complication. A domed sapphire crystal opens the movement from the front, while a transparent caseback shows it from the opposite side. The watch comes with a blue alligator strap and an additional blue rubber strap, both matched to titanium hardware.

Monochrome reported a European price of EUR 160,000 and availability from December 2026, while Panerai’s official product page asks clients to confirm price and availability with a boutique. PAM01784’s strength is the rare combination of a six-day GMT, exposed mechanics, a tourbillon and meaningful water resistance. Its limitation is equally concrete: this is an exceptionally large and expensive watch that cannot be judged from photographs alone.
