Khaki Field in Pearl Harbor: the pilots’ watch and today’s model

Hamilton links its hand-wound Khaki Field Mechanical to the characters in the 2001 film Pearl Harbor. We separate the screen history from the specifications of today’s H69439363 with the H-50 calibre.

Why it is interesting

Today’s H69439363 captures the film’s field-watch character and offers a stated 80-hour reserve. Try its 47 mm case length on your wrist before buying.

Things to consider

Hamilton confirms that Khaki Field Mechanical appeared in the film; we do not attribute the present-day H69439363 reference or H-50 calibre to the 2001 screen prop.

The model in detail

Meet the watch

The watch in Pearl Harbor does not upstage the pilots’ uniforms: a straightforward field dial and hand winding suit the period setting. Hamilton says its Khaki Field Mechanical was worn by Rafe McCawley and Danny Walker, played by Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett. The company selected watches suited to the film’s 1941 setting.

Hamilton’s current product page places the film alongside the green Khaki Field Mechanical H69439363. That is a useful link to the screen model, but it does not establish that this present-day reference or its current H-50 calibre appeared in a 2001 shot. The prop’s history and today’s product specifications need to be read separately.

The H69439363 has a steel case 38 mm across, 47 mm long and 9.5 mm thick. Its green dial is paired with a fabric strap; Hamilton specifies a sapphire crystal and 5 bar water resistance. On the wrist, the 38 mm diameter is only part of the story: lug-to-lug length and strap fit matter too.

Details and limitations

The H-50 is wound by hand and, according to Hamilton, can run for up to 80 hours from a full wind. You can leave it off for a few days, but there is no automatic winding: turning the crown becomes part of regular wear. Actual running time depends on how fully the spring was wound.

If the film’s look appeals to you, the H69439363 offers a clear contemporary route to it. I would choose it for its legible field design, manual movement and fit, rather than an expectation of acquiring the exact prop worn by the actors.
