Longines · Legend Diver 39 Blue
The model in detail
Meet the watch
The Legend Diver has no familiar toothed ring around its crystal. The minute scale sits inside the case, with a separate crown controlling its rotation. That makes it look calmer than most divers: from the side you see a smooth rim, two crowns and a large blue dial. On reference L3.764.4.90.6, a steel bracelet with small links completes the picture.
The family traces its roots to a Longines diver from 1959. The 39 mm generation was introduced in 2023; the blue version on a bracelet belongs to that generation. This matters when searching: the Legend Diver has existed in other sizes, movements and configurations. A photograph of a similar case does not guarantee that it is the same reference.
The internal bezel is protected by the crystal from direct knocks and accidental contact. The trade-off is a different setting method: instead of turning an external ring, you use the second crown. For an everyday timer, I would try that action during a fitting. Some will enjoy the unusual mechanical control; others will prefer an ordinary external bezel that can be gripped immediately.
Details and limitations
The dial does without a date. Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9, elongated markers and Super-LumiNova-coated hands provide a clear structure, although the outer minute scale makes the composition busier. In the official photographs, the blue looks deep and restrained; the close-up also shows how strongly the domed crystal shapes the appearance. During a fitting, look at the dial from an angle as well as straight on.

Longines specifies COSC certification for the complete watch. For an owner, that means roughly three days of autonomy and documented testing of its timekeeping. The silicon hairspring forms part of the protection against magnetic effects; it does not make the entire movement indifferent to every magnet.
Water resistance is rated at 30 bar, or 300 m, and the model is certified as a diver’s watch. At the rear is a solid back bearing a diver motif: you cannot observe the L888.6 through it. I like how the character comes from the case shape and dial layout rather than an exposed movement. The bracelet has a double-safety folding clasp; its comfort and the overall weight are still best judged on the wrist.

It works with knitwear, a shirt and a casual jacket; the bracelet’s small links support that more composed appearance. The main question before buying is whether you are comfortable with an internal bezel. If so, that feature and the two crowns are what make this watch recognisable.
