MB&F · Legacy Machine N°1 EVO
The model in detail
Meet the watch
In most watches with an additional time display, the minute hand remains shared. LM1 EVO takes a different approach: two separate dials have fully independent hours and minutes. The second time can be set with a half-hour or 45-minute offset without rounding to a whole hour. This useful detail sits inside a highly theatrical-looking construction.
A 14 mm balance occupies the centre of the composition, appearing suspended above the two small dials. The EVO version uses a Straumann double hairspring. You can observe the regulating assembly from the face of the watch. I like how the movement determines the whole appearance, while the time displays occupy separate, quietly designed platforms.

A new inclined energy indicator replaces the original LM1’s celebrated vertical display; the manufacturer compares today’s 60 hours with the previous 45. In practice, hand winding remains the owner’s habit. The indicator shows when to replenish energy instead of guessing from the number of days since the last wear.
Details and limitations
The case is reduced to 42 mm, but height is 16.8 mm and lug-to-lug length 52 mm. A compact diameter therefore does not promise an unobtrusive fit under a cuff. Domed sapphire creates room above the balance. Stated water resistance is 80 m, while FlexRing between the case and movement provides additional shock protection. That is part of the EVO construction; we have conducted no strength tests ourselves.
Launch versions comprise Grade 5 titanium with a rhodium dial plate and 5N+ rose gold with a green plate. The gold edition is limited to 33 pieces. Both receive quick-change rubber straps. The technical page lists hand finishing, gold chatons, polished bevels and internal angles, connecting development of the movement and its appearance to Jean-François Mojon and Kari Voutilainen.
LM1 EVO is interesting because independent minutes provide a concrete function, while the large balance turns it into a spectacle. It suits someone who wants to observe mechanics on the wrist and accepts a tall case. The official technical page used here does not provide a price or individual reference code: ask MB&F about the specific version’s cost and availability. Finishing and construction details do not replace trying it on.
