Jaeger-LeCoultre · Calibre 101 Chain
The model in detail
Meet the watch
The bracelet catches your eye first: diagonal bands of glossy black, pink gold and the light of diamonds. The tiny dial reveals itself a moment later. Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced Calibre 101 Chain on 13 October 2026, and this premiere rewards that order of discovery. The jewellery silhouette sets the watch’s character. In the official photographs, the contrast between warm metal and deep black works particularly well, giving a complex pattern a clear graphic identity.
We like the bold proportions of Chain. The small rectangle with two hands does not compete with the bracelet’s broad surface; it becomes a precise focal point. Its black lacquer dial carries through the colour of the decorative inserts. This approach will appeal to someone who chooses jewellery first but wants watchmaking skill behind its beauty. For a mechanical-watch enthusiast, it is also an interesting reason to look beyond familiar round cases.

The name therefore describes its visual language: a braided motif appears along the sides. The contemporary interpretation feels like a distinct object in its own right. In photographs, soft curves and assertive diagonals create an almost architectural rhythm. In our view, that rhythm is the new model’s most successful feature.
Details and limitations
Inside is the miniature, manually wound Calibre 101. Its 14 × 4.8 × 3.4 mm dimensions explain the freedom of form: the mechanism needs very little space. For a collector, this represents another aspect of engineering complexity. Shrinking components while preserving a working movement is as intriguing as adding another complication. Here the technical achievement can be appreciated through the freedom expressed by the finished object.

A large sports-watch dial is easier to read at a quick glance; Chain invites a different interaction, discovering a small window of time within a jewel. We like the coherence of that idea: its appearance and functions belong together.
Pink gold of 750 fineness is combined with black HyCeram ceramic composite and 158 diamonds weighing approximately 2.73 carats in total. The balance of surfaces is especially appealing: dark areas give the eye a pause, while sparkling bands guide attention along the bracelet. This is a piece to assess in motion and under different lighting. Official photographs reveal the pattern, but fit and feel are best judged by trying it on.
The new reference is Q2842270, with price available from the manufacturer on request. The press release specifies a wrist size of 160–165 mm, so discussing fit with a boutique before ordering is important. This premiere illustrates how mechanics can serve a jewellery concept: the small Calibre 101 gives designers room for a big idea. That is what makes Chain worth our attention.
