Tudor Black Bay 58 Burgundy: a colourful diver with a useful clasp

Why it is interesting

This version’s strength is its five-link bracelet with T-fit in a restrained 39 mm case. Burgundy gives the familiar shape more expression, while the MT5400-U offers understandable, verifiable specifications.

Things to consider

There is no date. Check the clasp position and bracelet fit before buying; polished surfaces show wear more clearly. Certification limits do not replace measurements of an individual watch.

The model in detail

Meet the watch

The burgundy Black Bay 58 looks warmer than the usual black diver: the colour unites the dial and aluminium bezel insert, while the light-coloured hands retain a clear contrast. The 2025 model is particularly interesting on its five-link bracelet. Its sporting foundations remain visible, but polished surfaces add a dressier touch. To my eye, it is a good option for anyone who finds familiar black watches a little too predictable.

The colour has a history of its own. Tudor links it to a Submariner 79190 prototype from the 1990s: its burgundy dial and bezel never reached series production. The 58 name refers to another chapter, the 7924 diver introduced in 1958. Different archive influences come together here, so there is no reason to search for a single old reference that exactly matches the present watch.

The steel case measures 39 mm across and 11.7 mm thick, with a 20 mm lug width. Those are restrained dimensions for a diver. When trying it on, though, I would also look at the curve of the lugs, the freedom of the first link and the position of the clasp: diameter does not tell the whole fit story. A wrist photograph helps judge proportions but cannot replace the feel of the actual watch.

Details and limitations

Inside is the automatic MT5400-U, with a silicon hairspring, a 4 Hz frequency and a 65-hour power reserve. Fully wound, it can be taken off on Friday evening and worn again on Monday morning; there will not be a large reserve left for the whole of Monday. COSC and METAS certification is the other important point. Tudor specifies a 0/+5-second daily range within the Master Chronometer test procedure and testing in a 15,000-gauss magnetic field. These are documented test conditions, not our own wrist measurements.

The five-link bracelet on reference M7939A1A0RU-0001 comes with the T-fit clasp. It allows tool-free length adjustment through five positions over an 8 mm range. In summer, when the fit changes through the day, that adjustment may prove more useful than another decorative detail. I would certainly try it before buying and check that the clasp sits comfortably under the wrist.

Water resistance is rated at 200 m. The external bezel turns in one direction and the winding crown screws down; Tudor requires it to be fully tightened after setting. The familiar diver layout is preserved: the minute marker can quickly be aligned with the hand. There is no date, which keeps the dial coherent, although anyone who regularly checks the calendar will need another source.

My reason for choosing this version would be the bracelet and its adjustment, rather than the Master Chronometer wording alone. Burgundy is distinctive without looking loud; it pairs well with navy, grey and brown clothing. The trade-off is clear too: the aluminium bezel insert and polished links reward care with their appearance. Buy it for the combination of design and convenience, without expecting its price to be guaranteed to rise.
