Audemars Piguet · Code 11.59 Starwheel
The movement in detail
The movement’s idea
Look at the numeral beside the upper arc. It tells you the hour, while its position against the scale gives the minutes. Starwheel replaces the familiar pair of hands with moving numerals; a central hand remains for seconds.
Each of the three aluminium discs carries four hour numerals. Their shared carrier circles the dial in three hours, while the discs also turn on their own axes. This brings the next numeral to the start of the minute sector.
Calibre 4310 builds on the 4309 with an additional display module. The complexity is concentrated in presenting time on the dial. Automatic winding and a 70-hour reserve preserve a familiar ownership routine.

Blue aventurine forms the backdrop to the black discs. The 41 mm case combines white gold and black ceramic; a transparent caseback reveals the automatic movement.
Reading this display takes a slightly different sequence: find the active numeral, then check the minute arc. For a collector, that is a compelling reason to look again, even when the time is already known.
