Parmigiani Fleurier · Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante Steel Platinum Sand Grey
The movement in detail
The movement’s idea
The Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante has a hand that knows how to wait. You give it a position on the minute track, and the ordinary minute hand gradually catches up. Parmigiani Fleurier introduced this construction in 2023. In the steel Sand Grey version, the idea hides inside a familiar round dial: no separate counters, just a small opportunity to take charge of the next few minutes.
The two minute hands normally sit one above the other. A pusher at 8 o’clock advances the lower, rose-gold hand in five-minute steps, while the pusher at 10 adds one minute at a time. To set a 12-minute interval, press the first twice and the second twice. The gold hand stops at the target; the regular hand continues moving with the hour hand. The gap between them shows how much time remains.

There is no audible signal: this is a visual marker for a conversation, a short break or a task you want to return to on time. The crown-integrated pusher brings the gold hand back beneath the minute hand. Rattrapante here refers to their reunion; this mechanism is not intended to measure fractions of a second like a split-seconds chronograph.
Practical meaning
The automatic PF052 runs at 3 Hz and provides a 48-hour power reserve. The catalogue specifies a 22-carat rose-gold micro-rotor: a compact rotating mass that winds the spring as the wrist moves. Unlike a full-size central rotor, the micro-rotor does not cover the whole movement, leaving its finishing easy to admire through the sapphire back. The practical guide for an owner is simple: a full reserve lasts two days, and after a longer break the watch will need winding.
The steel case measures 40 mm across and 10.7 mm thick, surrounded by a knurled platinum 950 bezel. A steel bracelet continues the case lines, while fine Grain d’Orge guilloché brings texture to the grey dial. Stated water resistance is 60 m. The appearance remains restrained despite the two pushers on the left: the useful function only appears on the dial when the owner calls it into action.

© Parmigiani Fleurier · SourceThe main habit to develop concerns operation. The manual expressly prohibits pressing the pushers simultaneously. When the function is active, setting the time moves the ordinary hands but leaves the gold hand where it was, so it makes sense to set the interval again afterward. The appeal of PF052 lies in this understandable relationship between gesture and result: your own marker appears on the dial, then disappears with one press.
